When many people think of Earth Day, April 22nd, they typically think of planting a tree, cleaning up garbage in a park or putting emphasis on remembering to recycle everyday items.
This year, Ontech Systems is recognizing Earth Day by becoming an official drop site for Cell Phones For Soldiers.
If you have old devices that you aren’t sure what to do with, that sit in a drawer taking up space, we have a solution for you!
From now until April 30th Ontech will accept cell phones from any carrier, including broken and outdated devices.
The following items are also accepted; cell phone chargers, headphones/Bluetooth, cameras, portable electronics (games, GPS, CD Player, etc.), tablets and new phones cases and other accessories.
It is recommended to clear your device of any data. When the organization receives the donation, they will wipe any remaining data.
Cell Phones For Soldiers is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cost-free communication services and emergency funding to active-duty military members and veterans.
Donations of devices and/or funds allow Cell Phones For Soldiers to fund its two programs:
- Minutes That Matter provides free calling cards to active-duty military members to connect with loved ones.
- Helping Heroes Homes assists veterans with emergency funds to alleviate communication challenges as well as physical, emotional and assimilation hardships.
Devices donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers are re-purposed or recycled. A cell phone that is repairable is wiped of data and re-purposed to veterans and active military members. Re-purposed phones that are not reused for veterans and active military are sold. Cell phones that are either too old or completely broken are responsibly recycled down to parts that can be sold for remaining value.
Proceeds from both repurposed and recycled phones are used to provide international calling cards and domestic wireless minutes for veterans and active military members. Proceeds also provide emergency financial assistance to veterans.
You can donate by stopping in at Ontech Systems to drop off your donation in Ontech’s front vestibule or if you are one of our customers, you can send items back with your consultant from a maintenance visit. In an effort to recycle and donate as much as possible, we encourage you to share this with your co-workers, family, and friends as well!
