Server Migrations

While server migrations are just a fact of life for any data-dependent business, upgrading your business servers can improve reliability, performance, and reduce costs. A server migration doesn’t have to be cumbersome, but careful planning is absolutely critical for a successful migration. There are several things to keep in mind when it comes to server migration.

If your business is still running Windows Server 2008, the time to upgrade is now – the official end of life date expired on January 14th, 2020.

The simple presence of outdated hardware puts your network at risk. If you need to buy some time, you may be able to extend the warranties on your hardware and software, but this is highly dependent on a number of factors such as the age of your server.

Determine Your Migration Timeline

WHEN TO MAKE THE SWITCH

If your organization is still running Server 2008 or earlier, the time to switch is now as this presents a security risk to your network. If your server is 3 years old, we suggest you look at your options and start thinking about migrating your server.

At 5 years old, it’s time to seriously consider a server upgrade or replacement since older servers are more prone to issues than newer hardware. It is recommended to time your server migration with your slowest time of year (such as the holidays).
